The Very Start

Hello and welcome to Nate's Notebook.

This brief post marks my first official contribution to this blog. I am a sports journalist at The Daily Times located in Maryville, Tennessee. Having and maintaining a blog is something I've always wanted to create, but it’s something that I have struggled to get up and running. I hope that this will be a place where I can post some thoughts/interests of mine. I hope that this will be a place I can give a little insight to some of my favorite works over at The Daily Times, as well as possibly post some long form features on some topics that interest me. Particularly stories that don't fall into my current job description in Tennessee.

I'll probably post some links to some of my stories with the Times and possibly some photos that I have captured on a weekly basis. This isn't the first time I've tried to create a website as I tend to make them and let them die over time. I don’t know how long I will keep this up but only time will tell.

I know this most likely is a thing that doesn’t “blow up” or get too many site clicks, but it's really just for me and those who want to keep up with my truly one-of-a-kind work that I do.

AN INTERESTING WEEK

As a sports journalist, no two weeks are ever the same. Last week was particularly fun one as had the opportunity to speak with former NFL Star Randall Cobb during a Friday football game at Alcoa High School. Cobb was a standout guy and how he carried himself really stood out to me. People, young and old, gathered around him for pictures and not once did he turn them away. And from my research, that how he's always been.

Cobb was there to be inducted to the Alcoa Hall of Fame, an honor I think is well deserved. The story I got out of it came out well and It's definitely a paper I’ll probably get framed on my wall.

My view from Alcoa’s Bill Bailey Stadium Friday, October 24, 2025.

That next Saturday, I had the opportunity to travel to the Lexington, Kentucky to cover the Tennessee Volunteers and the Kentucky Wildcats SEC football game. This was my first time ever covining a road football game and it was quite a time. The trip up to Kroger Field took four hours. But overall, it was a really cool experience.

You can check out the story from that trip here:  https://www.thedailytimes.com/sports/what-we-learned-from-no-14-tennessees-thrashing-of-kentucky/article_877df519-2fdb-4d8f-aebb-5a699423bc97.html

HOW OFTEN WILL I POST?

I know the key to any good blog is posting. My plan is to get a post out every month or maybe even twice a month.  But, we’ll see how that goes. Until then, I’d love contiue to build up post and hopefully get them out into the world on a consitent basis.
